Santa Casa da Misericórdia is one of Portugal’s oldest charitable institutions, caring for the elderly, the sick, and those in need, since 1489. Its “Academia Sénior” programme offers workshops in music, art, movement, and language; not only for residents, but increasingly for vulnerable people across Lisbon.

In 2023, Mamma Team Portugal, the talented portrait and automotive photographer Anke Luckmann, and a dedicated crew offered their time and talent, almost entirely pro bono, to create a photographic campaign capturing these moments of care and creativity.

The images below were shot across several Santa Casa spaces, including Residência Faria Mantero, where piano lessons take place, and Recolhimento de Santos-o-Novo, home to the painting classes.
